单词 | moebius process |
释义 | Moebius processn. An electrolytic process for refining silver and separating any gold that may be in it, in which anodes are made of the silver to be refined and placed in a solution of silver nitrate together with cathodes of pure silver or stainless steel. When a current is passed base metals go into solution, pure silver is deposited on the cathode, and any gold accumulates in bags placed around the anodes. Obviously, with modifications, the Mœbius process could be applied. 1924 A. J. Allmand & H. J. T. Ellingham Princ. Appl. Electrochem. XII. 333/1 Recovery of the silver and other precious metals from this slime is commonly effected by..electrolytic refining (using either the Balbach–Thum or Moebius process). 1970 Materials & Technol. III. iv. 295 Electrolytic refining [of doré metal] is now widely employed. In the Moebius process the impure silver is cast into anodes which are enclosed in cotton or linen bags and dissolved electrolytically in acid silver nitrate solution. 1998 Chem.
