单词 modernismus
释义

modernismusn.

Brit. /ˌmɒdəˈnɪzməs/, /ˌmɒdnˈɪzməs/, U.S. /ˌmɑdərˈnɪzməs/
Origin: Probably a borrowing from German. Etymon: German Modernismus.
Etymology: Probably < German Modernismus, though apparently first attested later in this sense: see modernism n. and note below. The German word is rare in this sense before 1960 and examples are lacking from earlier than 1948; Blomfield (see quot. 19341) may have inferred it < modernism n. (compare sense 4 s.v.).
= modernism n. 4 (with reference originally to architecture). More generally: modernist style or design.
