Etymology: < German Monradit (A. Erdmann 1842, in Vetenskaps. Acad. Handl. Stockh. 103) < the name of Dr Lars Monrad (1762–1836), Norwegian physician who discovered the mineral + -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy. Now historical.

A massive, granular, yellowish silicate of magnesium and iron found at Bergen in Norway (see quot. 1993).
