Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French moline, molin.

Etymology: < Anglo-Norman moline, molin, muline and Middle French molin mill (see mill n.¹). Sense A. 2 is probably after B., which arises from Anglo-Norman fer de molin, fer de moline, etc., denoting a mill-rind cross or cross moline (13th cent.); compare also post-classical Latin crux molendinaris, Anglo-Norman croix moleinee (both 15th cent. in N. Upton Essent. Portions De Studio Militari (1654)).
