Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: Anglo-Norman mesuser.
Etymology: Apparently < Anglo-Norman mesuser (although this is only attested in the more general sense `‘improper use’: 14th cent. or earlier), use as noun (compare -er suffix4) of the infinitive of mesuser, misuser to abuse, violate, to do wrong (late 13th cent.; French mésuser ; < mes- mis- prefix2 + user use v.).
Law.
The unlawful use of a liberty or benefit such as may lead to its forfeiture; †an instance of this (obsolete).
