单词 minutize
释义

minutizev.

Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek μινυρίζειν.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μινυρίζειν to sing or warble (of uncertain origin: see note and compare -ize suffix), by authorial or compositorial confusion with minute adj. or its classical Latin etymon. Compare minulize v.With ancient Greek μινυρίζειν to sing or warble, earlier to complain in a low tone, whimper, whine (Homer), compare ancient Greek μινυρός complaining (post-Homeric), in Hellenistic Greek also twittering, chirping (of young birds). Compare the parallel pairing of ancient Greek κινυρός wailing, plaintive, and κινυρίζειν to lament: the two pairs of words probably influenced one another, but the further etymology of each is unknown. Compare also ancient Greek μυρεῖσθαι to shed tears, weep for (perhaps cognate with μορμύρειν : see murmur v.), which may have exercised analogical influence.
Obsolete. rare.
transitive. Probably: to warble (a song) softly.
