Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Microsauria , -ian suffix.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Microsauria, order name (J. W. Dawson Air-breathers of Coal Period (1863) 47; < micro- micro- comb. form + -sauria : see Sauria n.) + -ian suffix. Compare microsaur n.Dawson originally proposed Microsauria as an order of fossil reptiles, but noted that its members had amphibian-like characteristics.
