Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: micro- comb. form, form n.
Etymology: < micro- comb. form + form n. In sense 1 apparently after the systematic use in mycology of Micro- in scientific Latin subgenus or section names, e.g. Micropuccinia (J. Schröter 1869, in Abhandl. der Schlesischen Ges.: Naturwissensch. u. Med. 20).
1. Mycology. A microcyclic rust fungus, spec. one that has teliospores that germinate after a resting period. Now rare.In N.E.D. this sense was treated as adjectival, perhaps because of the ambiguous wording of quot. 1900.
