Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Mezzo-Tenore.
Etymology: < German †Mezzotenore (1824 or earlier) < Italian mezzo tenore (probably early 19th cent. (currency at that date being suggested by the German word), although not securely attested until later: 1868 or earlier) < mezzo (see mezzo adv.) + tenore tenore n., probably after mezzo soprano mezzo-soprano n.
Music. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A baritone voice having the timbre of a tenor.
