Etymology: < ‘Mezz Mezzrow’, stage name adopted by Milton Mesirow (1899–1972), U.S. jazz clarinettist.Mezzrow is reported to have introduced marijuana to Harlem, and was a major source of the drug for jazz musicians in the 1930s (compare quot. 1946 at main sense).
