Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French métastatique.
Etymology: < French métastatique (1764 in sense 2a; 1793 in sense 1) < méta- meta- prefix + statique (see static adj.), as adjective corresponding to métastase metastasis n., perhaps after Hellenistic Greek μεταστατικός (adjective corresponding to μετάστασις in its use as a rhetorical term: see metastasis n.).
1. Crystallography. Of a crystal: having angles the same as those of its fundamental form. Obsolete. rare.
