Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mésocarpe.
Etymology: < French mésocarpe ( A. P. de Candolle Organographie végétale (1827) II. 5) < méso- meso- comb. form + -carpe -carp comb. form.R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. (1860) gives the Latin forms mesocarpium, mesocarpum, mesocarpus.
Botany.
The typically fleshy middle layer of the pericarp of a fruit, between the endocarp and the exocarp.
