Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin memorābilia.
Etymology: < classical Latin memorābilia memorable deeds (in post-classical Latin also in work titles (from 3rd or 4th cent.), after Hellenistic Greek ἀπομνημονεύματα), use as noun of neuter plural of memorābilis memorable adj.English use is perhaps after the Latin title Memorabilia of Xenophon's ‘Recollections’ (Ἀπομνημονεύματα) of Socrates. Compare the following:1712 E. Bysshe (title) The Memorable Things of Socrates. Compare also French Les choses mémorables de Socrate (1650), as the title of the same work.
With plural agreement.
