Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Or (ii) formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Greek μεγαλόϕωνος , -ous suffix; megalo- comb. form, -phonous comb. form.
Etymology: Either < ancient Greek μεγαλόϕωνος loud-voiced ( < μεγαλο- megalo- comb. form + -ϕωνος : see -phonous comb. form) + -ous suffix, or independently < megalo- comb. form + -phonous comb. form.

1. Of imposing sound. (In humorous or mock-heroic use.)

2. Having a strong voice. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
