Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Megaloblast.
Etymology: < German Megaloblast (P. Ehrlich 1880, in Berliner Klin. Wochenschr. 17 405/1) < megalo- megalo- comb. form + -blast -blast comb. form. Compare microblast n. at micro- comb. form 3.
Medicine.
An abnormally large erythroblast, characteristic esp. of certain types of anaemia.
