Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese meishi.
Etymology: < Japanese meishi (1462) < mei- name + -shi (calling) card; both elements < Middle Chinese.The item was originally (in China) a strip of bamboo bark.
In Japan: a small card printed with the bearer's name, address, telephone number, and profession, etc., exchanged at business meetings and social occasions; a business card.
