1921 Bull. Geol. Soc. Amer. 32 402 The name maskelynite..was first given by Tschermak to an isotropic constituent of the habit and composition of a labradorite feldspar occurring in the stone of Shergotty. The name has since been extended to cover a colorless interstitial substance, sometimes quite isotropic and sometimes faintly doubly refracting, of like appearance and habit, and a common if not universal constituent of the chondritic meteorites.
