Etymology: < scientific Latin Medullosa ( B. Cotta Die Dendrolithen in Beziehung auf ihren inneren Bau (1832) 59) < classical Latin medulla medulla n. (in sense ‘pith of a plant’) + -ōsa , feminine of -ōsus -ose suffix¹.

Botany.

A genus (or form genus) of fossil plant stem found in Carboniferous and Permian deposits; the extinct seed-bearing tree fern (pteridosperm) from which such remains are derived. Cf. medullosan adj. and n.
