1972 P. Holroyde Indian Music v. 199 Tala (= palm of the hand) is a complex organization of rhythms or differing beats..in multiple groupings or thekas which are again subdivided by the individual components of the beat, the fractional matras.

1998 Hindu (Madras) 9 Jan. 30/6 She gave overenthusiastic support to Hari Prasad by coming in a matra earlier not allowing for the savouring of his bhava laden singing. This also created some confusion in the tala framework.
