Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Mary Gregory.
Etymology: < the name of Mary Gregory (1856–1908), artist at the Boston & Sandwich Glassworks, Massachusetts, who was taken to have originated the style (although see quot. 19921).
Decorative Arts.
A type of decorative glassware manufactured in the United States towards the end of the 19th cent., which is typically tinted and painted with designs, esp. figures of children, in white enamel. Frequently attributive, esp. in Mary Gregory glass.
