Origin: Formed within English, by back-formation. Etymon: manumission n.
Etymology: Back-formation < manumission n., after e.g. commise v., premise v., remise v.1 In forms in -ss- probably after (or perhaps independently from) classical Latin manūmiss-, past participial stem of manūmittere manumit v.
Now historical and rare.
