Etymology: < classical Latin manticulāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of manticulārī to act like a cutpurse, to cut open (a bag or purse) < manticula small bag, purse < mantica travelling bag (compare mantellum mantle n.) + -ula -ula suffix. Compare earlier manticulation n.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Probably transitive and intransitive. To do something (esp. steal a purse) by stealth.
