Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: auto- comb. form1, -onym comb. form.
Etymology: < auto- comb. form1 + -onym comb. form.
1. One's own name, a person's real name; esp. the real name of an author, as distinguished from a pseudonym (pseudonym n. 1). Hence: a person who publishes a book under his or her own name; a book so published.In quot. 1854 apparently used irregularly for: a journalistic sobriquet.
