Origin: A borrowing from Chinese Pidgin English. Etymon: Chinese Pidgin English makee.
Etymology: < Chinese Pidgin English makee < make v.1 + Chinese Pidgin English -ee, added (originally for euphony) to words (frequently verbs) ending in stop consonants.The form in quot. 1689 represents the accent of a French person.
Now chiefly considered offensive.
transitive. In representations of pidgin English: to make (in various senses); spec. with dependent verb in simple infinitive form, indicating an active or causative use (cf. make v.1 39b).
