1861 Trans. Med. & Physical Soc. Bombay 6 106 One of the earliest notices is that by a Madras surgeon mentioned by Dr. J. Colebrook (Madura Dispensary Report 1848)... By this time the endemic character of the affection was known, the term ‘Madura foot’ being commonly used in that district. Colebrook..states this.

1868 J. H. Nelson Madura Country i. iv. 91 Its classical name is morbus pedis entophyticus; but it is better known in this District by the name of ‘the Madura foot’.

1911 Encycl. Brit. XX. 785/2 Mycetoma, the Madura foot of India, is a disease very similar to actinomycosis.

1964 M. Hynes Med. Bacteriol. (ed. 8) xv. 256 Madura Foot... There is a local swelling perforated by sinuses discharging pus.
