Also  Madeira wine.The wine is produced in dry, medium, and sweet varieties, the sweet being well known as a dessert wine. In colour Madeira characteristically has an amber tint, in shades ranging variously from light to dark. ‘Until the turn of the 18th cent., Madeira—like its cousins, Port and Sherry—was exported as an unfortified beverage wine’ (A.
