Etymology: Perhaps shortened < Mahound n.Sara Williams, who invented the name (see Modo n.), said of it ‘that the name of Maho came into her minde; for that she had heard before her vncle reade the same out of a booke, there being a tale therein of Maho’ (S. Harsnet Declar. Popish Impostures 181).
