Etymology: < classical Latin mactātiōn-, mactātiō < mactāt- , past participial stem of mactāre (see mactate v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French mactation (1555).
Now rare.
The action of killing, esp. the slaughtering of a sacrificial victim; an instance of this.
