Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish manola.
Etymology: < Spanish (colloquial) manola lower-class girl from Madrid, a name given especially in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to people from certain quarters of Madrid, characterized by their stylish dress and jaunty, carefree air, probably < Manola, familiar form of the forename Manuela.
