Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin magniloquentia.
Etymology: < classical Latin magniloquentia exalted or pompous language < magniloquus grandiloquent, boastful ( < magni- magni- comb. form + -loquus < loquī to speak: see loquent adj.) + -entia -ence suffix. French magniloquence is recorded only from 1834 onwards. Compare earlier magniloquency n. and grandiloquence n.
The quality of being magniloquent; loftiness or pomposity of speech or expression.
