Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably partly modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: low adj., Dutch n.1, Dutch adj.
Etymology: As noun < low adj. + Dutch n.1 As adjective < low adj. + Dutch adj. Probably at least in part after German niederdeutsch: see discussion at Low German n.
