Etymology: < (i) French †Louoh, †Lwo (both 1885 in the passage translated in quot. 1886; now Luo), and its etymon (ii) Luo Lúó, self-designation.Compare Luo ja-Lúô Luo person, jo-Lúô Luo people, and dhó-Lúô the Luo language; the language is also often referred to as Dholuo in English.
