Etymology: < lotus n. + land n.1, originally so called with reference to the land of the lotus-eaters in Homer Odyssey ix. 84 (ancient Greek γαῖα Λωτοφάγων land of the Lotophagi or lotus-eaters; compare Lotophagi n.). Compare earlier lotus-eater n.
