Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin loculātus.
Etymology: < classical Latin loculātus divided into compartments < loculus (see loculus n.) + -ātus -ate suffix1. Compare French loculé (1822 or earlier). Compare slightly earlier uniloculate adj. Compare also earlier loculated adj.
Chiefly Botany.
Divided into, or containing, loculi; locular. Also with prefixed numeral indicating the number of loculi.
