The president of the High Court of Justiciary.The position became a sinecure usually held by a nobleman (the actual duties being discharged by the Justice Clerk), and was merged in the 1830s with that of Lord President of the Court of Session‘Lord’, originally prefixed as a deferential form of address or reference, became established in the title during the 17th cent.
