Etymology: < Greek λιθοτόμον (in sense 1), neuter of λιθοτόμος adjective, stone-cutting, < λίθος stone + -τόμος cutting, τέμνειν to cut. Compare French lithotome.
1. Surgery. An instrument for cutting the bladder in lithotomy; more properly called a cystotome.
