Etymology: < the name of Leicester, an English county town.
a. Used attributively or as adjective, and hence elliptically as noun, to designate a valuable long-woolled variety of sheep and a long-horned variety of cattle originally bred in Leicestershire. In Australian and New Zealand usage frequently as English Leicester. Cf. Border Leicester n. Also Leicestershire n.
