Etymology: < Italian lambrusco lit. ‘grape of the wild vine’, < lambruscare to allow (a vine) to grow wild.
A sparkling red wine produced in both dry and sweet varieties throughout the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy; the grape from which this wine is made. In transferred use also applied to red or white wines of similar character produced elsewhere.
