A bottom-dwelling, eel-like marine fish, Genypterus capensis (family Ophidiidae), found off the western and southern coasts of South Africa and popular as a food fish. Also: any of several serranid rock cod of the coastal waters of South Africa, esp. Epinephelus andersoni.
