1921 M. Bloomfield in Jrnl. Amer. Oriental Soc. 41 197 The supposedly I. E. Hittite [in the Boghazköi inscriptions] seems, according to both authors [sc. Forrer and Hrozný], to be well entitled to the name Kanesian, named after the city of Kaneš. But this latter designation is never indicated by an ethnical adjective... Instead there occurs, more frequently than the mention of Kaneš, the ethnical designation Nāšili, which Forrer takes to be the same as Kanesian.]
1928 C. Dawson Age of Gods xiii. 302 The official language of the [Hittite] empire has been named by its discoverers Nashili or Kanesian.
1950 H. L. Lorimer Homer & Monuments i. 4 Lydian, the language of the Lemnian inscription, and Etruscan are all three closely interrelated and belong, like Kanesian, to that early (though post-Luvian) stage of I.-E.
