单词 jetton

jettonn.

Brit. /ˈdʒɛt(ə)n/, U.S. /ˈdʒɛtn/, /ʒəˈtɑn/

Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French jeton, jetton.
Etymology: < French jeton, †jetton disc of metal, ivory, etc., bearing an inscription or device (1394 in Middle French with reference to reckoning accounts, 1690 with reference to gambling), commemorative medal or token (1685 with reference to such a token given to members of the French Academy to record their attendance at meetings; earlier in sense ‘new shoot of a plant’ (late 12th cent. in Old French)) < jeter to throw, cast, to cast up (accounts), calculate (see jet v.2) + -on -oon suffix. Compare Italian gettone (1598 in Florio, denoting a disc used in gambling; < French). Compare jeton n., which shows a (non-naturalized) later reborrowing of the French etymon.
