Etymology: < a first element of uncertain origin (see note) + head n.1Apparently related to kirkin-head n., which is first attested in the same source, suggesting that one of these words may have originated as a typographical error.
Architecture.
A type of roof end consisting of a hipped top part and a gabled bottom part. Frequently attributive, esp. in jerkinhead gable, jerkinhead roof.Also called half-hip (see hip n.1 2a).
