Etymology: < ask v. + -ed suffix1.It is unclear whether the Old English forms in ge- are derived from the prefixed or the unprefixed verb, i.e. āscian or ge-āscian (see ask v.).
1. That has been asked for; requested. Now more commonly asked-for.In quot. OE with reference to Roman Law, rendering classical Latin responsum denoting the reply given by a jurisconsult in answer to a legal query (cf. responsum n. 1).
