Origin: A borrowing from Sanskrit. Etymon: Sanskrit ārya.
Etymology: < Sanskrit ārya (see Aryan adj.).
A member of the peoples speaking any of the languages of the Indo-Iranian family; (also) a member of the group of ancient peoples thought to have spoken the language from which these are believed to derive. Cf. Aryan n. 1a.
