A derivative of isoniazid which was used for a time (usually as the phosphate, a white crystalline powder) in the treatment of tuberculosis and as an antidepressant; 1-isonicotinyl-2-isopropyl hydrazine, (CH3)2CH·NH·NH·CO·C5H4N.

Iproniazid may cause a number of side-effects, the most serious being acute hepatic necrosis which is occasionally fatal. Because of this, the use of iproniazid as an antidepressant has been discontinued.
1971 Brit. Med. Bull. 27 28/2 Hypertensive attacks were described in patients who were given iproniazid for tuberculosis.
