Etymology: Partly (in α. forms) < Inupiaq Iñupiat, plural of Iñupiaq (see below), and partly (in β. forms) < Inupiaq Iñupiaq, self-designation < iñuk person (cognate with Eastern Canadian Inuit inuk Inuk n.) + -piaq real, genuine (cognate with Yupik -pik : see Yupik n.).
