1. Originally (now more fully European mouflon): a small wild sheep with brown wool, Ovis musimon, found on Sardinia, Corsica, and Cyprus. Later also (in full Asiatic mouflon): the closely related wild sheep O. orientalis, found from Iran to Asia Minor. Formerly also: †any of various other wild sheep of the Old World; esp. (more fully †maned mouflon, †ruffed mouflon) the Barbary sheep, Ammotragus lervia (obsolete).The mouflon O. musimon is usually thought to be a feral descendant of primitive domestic sheep ( O. aries).
