Etymology: < Isicamtho Isiqamtho < isi-, class prefix denoting a language + an inflected form of Zulu -qamunda to talk volubly (or its cognate in a related language). Compare Xhosa Iscamtho.

A hybrid street language originating in the Johannesburg townships, probably in the 1950s, consisting predominantly of Zulu, Afrikaans, and English. Cf. tsotsi taal n. at tsotsi n.
