单词 individable
释义

individableadj.

Brit. /ˌɪndᵻˈvʌɪdəbl/, U.S. /ˌɪndəˈvaɪdəb(ə)l/
Forms: see in- prefix4 and dividable adj.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: in- prefix4, dividable adj.
Etymology: < in- prefix4 + dividable adj. Compare earlier indivisible adj.
Now rare.
Not capable of being divided; indivisible. The exact sense in quot. 1604 is disputed, but is now usually considered to be ‘observing the Aristotelian unity of place’ (cf. unity n. 9a); alternatively, H. Jenkins in the Arden Shakespeare edition of Hamlet (1982) suggests ‘unclassifiable’.
