Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: inclusive adv.; inclusive adj., -ly suffix2.
Etymology: Originally (i) an alteration of inclusive adv., after adverbs in -ly suffix2. Compare later inclusive adj. In later use also partly (ii) < inclusive adj. + -ly suffix2. Compare post-classical Latin inclusive inclusive adv., Middle French, French inclusivement (second half of the 14th cent.).
1. With the inclusion of, or so as to include, the stated items or limits. Frequently placed after the last of a range of numbers, dates, etc., to indicate the inclusion of the limits in the range. Cf. inclusive adv.
